Sticking Your Neck Out Today?

"Behold the turtle. He makes progress only when he sticks his neck out" (James Bryant Conant).
Sometimes I just want to crawl back into my shell and hide from the world. It seems every time I stick my neck out, I get in trouble! But I know that's the only way to move forward at times.

What do you think? Do you have a hard time sticking your neck out at times?

I have learned from nature that there are just some things one has to do, to survive. Some snakes eat other snakes. That's risky, isn't it? Some animals literally bury themselves in the dirt, hoping they will not be dug up and devoured by by a predator. The thing about us, as humans, is that "sticking one's neck out" feels too much like an opportunity for the gullotine. When actually, many opportunities require risk, and some people are worth investing time and money in, hoping that God will bless our efforts to redeem that which may seem hopeless or lost. I prefer to stick out my neck and take some risks, fully knowing that the bait I am using to tempt the sojourner from his past, may well be taken without engaging the hook.

I think you've touched a great point here. "Sticking your neck out" involves facing our fears. And for me, that requires trusting God in the process. It also involves listening to His Voice, and not the voice of fear, doubt, unbelief, hopelessness, etc. Thanks for your comment!
