Following Through: Excuse #5

"Oh, Master, please! Send somebody else!" (Exodus 4:13)

Sometimes I'm afraid to do what I sense God directs me to do. I think, Surely someone else who is more skilled or experienced can do a better job!

Excuse.
When God called Moses, he questioned his own abilities. He even asked God to send someone else.

Has fear ever been your excuse for disobedience? I’ve been tempted to follow the voice of fear many times. And when fear comes in like a storm, it often knocks me off my feet for awhile, paralyzing me.

Promise. God reponded to Moses' fear with the promise of a helper. “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well ... You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him" (4:14-16).

Jesus also promised His followers a companion, the Holy Spirit. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

Reflection. At times, I’ve felt like I’ve resisted the Lord's direction as long as I can, and I'm forced to make a decision. And I must choose to either go forward and do what God’s called me to do or walk away in disobedience.

Often as I wrestle with my fears, I recall another promise from God's Word, “ For I know the plans I have for you … plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).

Then, I ask myself, Will I walk in fear? Or will I choose to or by faith and just “do it afraid”?

Does fear ever keep you from following through on something you know you needed to do?
