WordStudy: Jehovah “I AM”

Who He Is: Jehovah "I AM"

You are my faithful Provider, Jehovah-Jireh, You are to me.
The all and powerful Healer, Jehovah-Rophe, eternally.
Jehovah-Nissis, You are my banner, my certain victory.
Jehovah-M’Kaddesh, Sanctifier, to make righteous or holy.
I know You are Jehovah-Shalom, the God of peace, You will bless.
Jehovah-Tsidkenu, You are my righteousness.
Jehovah-Rohi, You are my Shepherd, my guide everywhere.
Jehovah-Shammah, faithful companion, You are the Lord who is always there.

You are my provider, my healer, my banner, my sanctifier;
You are my peace, my righteousness, my shepherd, Who is always there.

The Hallelujah Factor. In his book,The Hallelujah Factor, Jack Taylor reminds us that the name Jehovah “ …is the most commonly used designation for God in the Bible. It is used more than 6,800 times!” (50)

Jack Taylor wrote The Hallelujah Factor after he taught a series on “praise” at our church during our seminary days. Not only did God revealed Himself to Israel throughout the Old Testament by His Name—Jehovah, He revealed Himself to me during my study of praise, based on the names of God (below). To help me remember some of the Names of God revealed in His Word, I wrote the lyrics to “Who He Is” (above).

•Jehovah: "I AM WHO I AM" (Exodus 3:14 NIV).
•Jehovah-Jireh "The Lord Will Provide" (Genesis 22:14).
•Jehovah-Rophe "I am the LORD, who heals you" (Exodus 15:26).
•Jehovah-Nissis "The LORD is my Banner" (Exodus 17:15).
•Jehovah-M’Kaddesh "Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am the LORD your God" (Leviticus 20:7).
•Jehovah-Tsidkenu “The LORD Our Righteousness" (Jeremiah 23:6).
•Jehovah-Rohi "The LORD is my shepherd" (Psalm23:1).
•Jehovah-Shammah "THE LORD IS THERE" (Ezekiel 48:35).

WordStudy: When I developed an online WordStudy a few years ago, during a Bible study I taught at The Summit Church in North Little Rock, Arkansas, the word “Jehovah” landed on the top of my WordStudy list. This online study drew some out-of town visitors, like my friend, Bibbie, who shared the following insights from her WordStudy of Jehovah, “I AM.” [Thank you, Bibbie, for sharing your insights.]

I followed a path from Exodus 3:14 to Exodus 6:3 to John 8:58. John 8:58 states, “Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.’” I think this puts it all into perspective for me this week. Before Abraham WAS born, Jesus IS! This is an absolute existence, a FOR SURE existence of Jesus (God/Jehovah). This is more than a SIMPLE existence! It is an ACTIVE existence, a POWERFUL existence! An existence that encompasses EVERYTHING that moves and breathes! It is an existence that I cannot afford to miss. "I AM." Those two words seem to resonate, don't they? I bet they did with Moses, too, as they were spoken to him by God/Jehovah!

I miss connecting with my WordStudy friends; so, I decided to add this study to the BLESSED blog. I hope you will participate. Be sure to share your insights as a comment to this post!
