Handprint Christmas Tree
Trying to keep your kids entertained while they are out of school for the holidays?
Or do you need more ideas to countdown to Christmas with your kids? My daughter Tara sent me this Christmas craft idea, a handprint Christmas tree.
Thanks for the holiday craft idea, Tara!
Handprint Christmas Tree
Materials needed
* Craft paint (brown, green, red, yellow, purple)
* Sponge or foam brush
* Glitter (gold or silver for the star, other colors if wanted)
* Canvas (or paper, whatever you want)
* Hair dryer (to speed up the drying between steps)
* Paint brushes, if your child wants to add more detail.
Directions
1. Write child’s name and the date the back of the canvas.
2. Paint background first, and let it dry completely (if you want a color other than white as the background).
3. Paint the (pinky) side of your child’s hand brown. Then, stamp it at the bottom of the picture, and let it dry. [This is the tree trunk.]
4. Paint the inside of your child’s hand green. Turn the picture upside down, and place a green handprint for the top of the tree. [The palm will be at the top of the page with the fingers pointing down.]
5. Make several more green handprints going down and out toward the trunk for the rest of the Christmas tree. Let the green completely dry.
6. Put various colors out on craft table. Show your child how to dip the tips of their fingers into the paint. Then, show them how to stamp the tips of their fingers onto the tree to make ornaments. Let the paint completely dry.
7. Have your child paint a star at the top of the tree and sprinkle glitter on it, while the paint is still wet.
8. Add other details to picture, such as gifts, tinsel, a background, etc.
Merry Christmas!
