My Mother (Nelle Allen Barnes Baize) said that this Magic Cookie Bar recipe was her "favorite for Christmas." She made them every year that I can remember. I found them again this year as I thumbed through the Christmas recipe book Mother compiled for us in 1986. I'm so glad Mother took the time to write down all of her best holiday recipes for us. And she never seemed to mind when I called her for help with a recipe.

I liked to make these Magic Cookie Bars when I needed a dessert for a Christmas party. They were always a hit. I think you'll like them, too.

Magic Cookie Bars 

1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 - 14 oz. can Eagle Brand milk
1 - 6 oz. package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 - 3 1/2 oz. flaked coconut
1cup chopped nuts

* Melt butter in 9x13 pan.
* Sprinkle crumbs over butter.
* Pour Eagle Brand milk over crumbs.
* Add other ingredients in order: chocolate chips, coconut, and nuts.
* Bake 25-30 minutes at 350*
* Cool; then, cut into squares.
