BLESSED: Those Who Mourn

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted" (Matthew 5:4 NIV).

How about another Beatitude for your next BLESSED writing prompt?

Can you write a 1-2 sentence explanations of that scriipture? How would you define "blessed"? "Mourn"? "Comforted"?

Now, what came to your mind when you read the scripture? Did you think of a life-changing event or a loved one? Maybe you have experienced comfort during a time of mourning? Can you remember a time that your own grief experiences helped you relate to others?

I hope this scripture and these questions prompt some memories and faith or family stories for you. Be sure to share them with our readers, if possible.

Blessings,

Karen

I received this comment from a childhood friend. If you're familiar with Southern Baptists, you will recognize the terms "GAs" and "Training Union" (part of our religious upbringing). I hope Bibbie's comment prompts even more memories for you.

"Hey, have read the two writing prompts. Great idea! I haven't put much thought to them yet, but the word 'beatitudes' did bring back a sudden memory...GAs and memorizing all those scriptures for moving up those steps...all the way up to Queen! Whew! Lots of Bible verses. The children in our church now do that through Children's Bible Drill. Much scripture memorization has been removed from churches. I know that GAs and Training Union gave me most of mine as a child growing up. I don't see that happening with my grandchildren. Need to do that myself, right? Enjoy your writing!" (Bibbie)

    Thanks for your comments, Bibbie

    Keep writing! kj
