A "Tent Revival" Memory

I know you will enjoy this week's BLESSED Journal post—"The Holy Rollers" by Tuck Mantooth. This childhood memory from the 1950's displays a humorous, yet serious twist, with the innocent voice of a child and his honest reactions and emotions.

This piece took me back to a time in my own childhood, viewing tent revivals from a different vantage point. My family actually attended tent revivals as participants, not just observers—although the revivals I attended did not seem as entertaining as the ones illustrated in Tuck's story. And I plan to write about some of those memories soon. They represent my family heritage, culture, and legacy. Plus, they played a vital role in of my spiritual journey.

Did Tuck's story bring back memories for you, too? What reactions did you have to his musings? I hope you will take this opportunity to write your reactions and comments about this story. And we would love to read them!

So, feel free to post your comments—we want to hear from you! And if you would like to share some of your own stories, please contact me at kj@karenjordan.net. Maybe I can even post them on the BLESSED Journal soon.

Keep writing! kj

Hmmm...tent revivals...some LONG services...I do remember some of those! And I agree...not as entertaining as Tuck's. I did, a few years ago, attend a revival upon a request from one of my fifth grade students. I was 'entertained' ... for a while...then the visiting pastor's sermon changed mid-stream, and I became the LONE person in the sanctuary that he was speaking to. You noticed I did not say God was speaking through him...the pastor was preaching AT me! Needless to say, I did not leave that revival 'filled with the Holy Ghost! I was actually a bit miffed at that pastor!

Yikes! That would be a story worth writing about--you certainly don't want to forget it. [Or do you?] But if you do write about it, send it on. I'd love to read it!

Thanks so much for your comment. Keep writing!
